“The person who said ‘money does not make you happy’ was manic-depressive.” ~Rich Dad (From Robert Kiyosaki)
Many people today are brought up to believe that money doesn’t buy happiness. That’s what many of our parents have ingrained in our heads and have taught us to accept as truth.
In reality, money, when wisely used and acquired, can indeed buy a lot of happiness.
Here are a few thoughts on why this is the truth:
Many entrepreneurs are generous people… they have money work for them and in turn, have the opportunity to create jobs and build businesses to drive the economy. It creates a lot of happiness for people who benefit from the efforts of entrepreneurs.
There is nothing more satisfying for entrepreneurs to be in a position to be able to give money away as tithes and gifts to people and organizations that need it most. It brings a tremendous amount of joy to the giver. “It’s better to give than receive” holds very true for those people in this position.
In today’s economy, debt is money, debt is capital, and debt can be used to create opportunity. Entrepreneurs use debt as money to create opportunities for other people to find solutions that they may not be able to create or find themselves. It creates happiness for both the entrepreneur and the person receiving the opportunity the entrepreneur has created.
Many people think of the “rich” as greedy people and greed can often lead to negative things. In reality, when you study people with money, the majority of those people are very generous people and are happily finding ways to serve other people with the gifts they have been given.
God wants us to be rich. Look at the parable of the Talents that Jesus taught in Matthew 25: 14-30. The master was most happy with the servant that multiplied what talents he received. God wants us to use the gifts he has given to us and multiply them to be used for His purpose.
Money used inappropriately doesn’t buy happiness on its own. Buying liabilities that don’t generate cash flow or feed addictions can lead to a lot of sadness and stress in our lives.
It’s important to seek out and acquire wealth with the intent of serving others before ourselves. When we do this, we create happiness for others which results in happiness for us. It pleases God and He, in turn, blesses us and gives us more wealth to be used in the same way.
